2 Hurt in Leavenworth Accident on Highway 2

LEAVENWORTH, WA (August 16, 2020) – Last Friday, an attempted robbery ended with a crash on Highway 2, police reported.

According to reports, just around noon, a suspect stole a vehicle from the MEGA car dealership on Wenatchee Avenue. After receiving reports of the incident, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office unit searched and chased the suspect vehicle. The authorities continued the chase until the car stopped. Then, the driver escaped and headed west on Highway 2.

As a result, the unit lost sight of the car at the Big Y interchange.

Sergeant Dan McCue said, “We started getting calls coming in after contact was broken that an individual tried to car-jack at least one other vehicle from another citizen. At that time we had calls coming in that the vehicle was parked along (Highway 2). So a unit recontacted the vehicle but was unable to get the vehicle to stop. Maybe about a half mile later he crashed right in front of Safeway in Leavenworth.”

Authorities transported the suspect to Central Washington Hospital. Afterward, they took him to the Chelan County Jail. Furthermore, the sole occupant of the other car was transported to Cascade Medical Center with minor injuries.

Following the crash, the suspect receives charges on the attempted robbery in the 2nd degree, taking a motor vehicle without permission, and vehicular assault.
