Bike Rider Sustains Injuries in San Diego Collision
San Diego, CA (May 25, 2023) – At around 5:18 p.m. on Tuesday, a road bike rider and a motorcyclist sustained injuries in a collision on Viewridge Avenue.
The San Diego Police Department officers said a 57-year-old man was riding a southbound 18-speed road bike on Viewridge Avenue and Balboa Avenue.
The bicyclist was in a marked crosswalk facing a green traffic light when at the same time, a 61-year-old man was riding an eastbound black 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the right-hand lane of 9400 Balboa Avenue.
The motorcyclist passed the vehicles on the right shoulder and approached the intersection while facing a red traffic light.
However, when the bicyclist crossed the eastbound lanes, the motorcyclist’s traffic light turned green and he did not see the bicyclist. The motorcyclist broadsided the bicyclist.
As a result, the motorcycle rider incurred abrasions to the left side of his body and chin. The bicyclist incurred an open fracture to his left lower leg, a laceration to his right eyebrow, and multiple abrasions throughout his body.
Authorities do not suspect DUI in this incident.
