Motorcyclist Hospitalized after Victorville Hit-and-Run Crash, Suspect Driver Arrested

VICTORVILLE, CA (March 27, 2019) – A 35-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Stonegate Drive Saturday evening. The incident occurred just west of Amethyst Road in the city of Victorville at around 7:08 p.m.

Deputy Vogel with the Victorville Police Department said that a witness, who saw the vehicle with major damage fleeing a crash, followed the silver 2017 Nissan Maxima to the area of Monte Vista Road and Maricopa Road. The suspect crashed into a tree while trying to maneuver a left turn onto Monte Vista Road. The suspect was trapped in the vehicle until deputies were able to get him out and detain him. He sustained only minor injuries.

Ivettee Cifuentes said the emergency responders found the motorcycle rider severely injured and unconscious but breathing. Cifuentes, along with other good samaritans, stopped to render aid to the victim. Firefighters requested County Helicopter H325 to land on Bear Valley Road and subsequently airlifted the injured party to Antelope Valley Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, police say the suspect driver faces several charges, including felony hit-and-run and suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Westbound Bear Valley Road at Stonegate Drive, as well as the intersection where the suspect crashed, were closed during the initial investigation.

Motorcycle riders rarely escape injury when an accident occurs. If you are riding a motorcycle, do not underestimate the bike’s speed and strictly follow traffic laws and the conditions of the road. For other motorists, do not tailgate a motorcycle and maintain a safe following distance. Give motorcycles a full traffic lane when you pass and remember that they too have equal rights on the road.
