Pilot and Mechanic Injured in Helicopter Accident near Highway 99

 
TUMWATER, WA (May 25, 2018) – Two men were injured in a helicopter crash at Olympia Regional Airport, on Friday morning. Their identities have not yet been released.
 
According to reports, the NW helicopter had just taken off from the airport around 9:40 AM for a test flight, when it experienced a mechanical issue. The aircraft lost altitude and crashed into a nearby grass field at the southern end of the airport.
 
Police officials and fire crews arrived at the scene to find two injured individuals. The pilot and mechanic on-board sustained non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. There is no update on their current medical conditions.
 
Authorities stated that airport operations were not interrupted by the incident and that officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the collision. No other information was immediately disclosed to the public.
