Two Hospitalized in El Cajon Multi-Car Pileup on 8 Freeway

EL CAJON, CA (February 12, 2019) — A five-vehicle crash on an East County freeway sent two people to the hospital on Saturday, February 9.

According to a California Highway Patrol incident log, the accident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on westbound 8 Freeway near Johnson Avenue.

A witness told a CHP dispatcher that a white sports car crashed into the center divider and rolled over, then it collided into another car causing a collision involving several other vehicles as well. Five cars were involved in the collisions, dispatchers were told.

Two people were rushed to a hospital by paramedics, Heartland Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Sonny Saghera stated. There were no details on the severity of their conditions.

One vehicle was stuck blocking the No. 2 lane, while the rest of the cars involved in the collision were able to get over to the right-hand shoulder.
