VANCOUVER, WA (February 4, 2020) – A 17-year-old boy died in a head-on crash on 72nd Avenue on January 31.

Responders came to the scene before 5:00 p.m. in the 15000 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue.

When the firefighters arrived, they located two crashed cars, a Mercedes sedan, and a Ford van. They also found an unresponsive 17-year-old stuck inside the Mercedes he drove. The firefighters used heavy machinery to free the man for around 20 minutes. However, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to investigators, the Mercedes driver traveled south on Northeast 72nd Avenue and drove across the centerline of the roadway, driving to the path of the northbound Ford van. The two cars then crashed.

The 27-year-old van driver Cody Potter of Battle Ground got transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, the identity of the deceased remains unreleased due to pending family notification.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the collision. As of this time, authorities are still uncertain whether the Mercedes crossed the centerline.

Authorities also shut down northeast 72nd Avenue between Northeast 139th Street and 159th Street following the crash.

Clark County Fire & Rescue and Fire District 6 both came and helped at the scene.
