Teenage Bicyclist Dies after Collision with Vehicle near Avenue 88
PORTERVILLE, CA (October 24, 2018) – A girl was killed Wednesday afternoon following a bicycle crash on Road 256. The identity of the 15-year-old victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 3:00 PM. The bicyclist was heading east on Avenue 88 when she failed to stop at the stop sign. Her bicycle entered the intersection, where she was struck by a 2005 GMC.
The impact of the crash ejected the teenager from the bicycle, causing serious injuries. She was rushed to Kaweah Delta Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff. Meanwhile, the GMC driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. It was also noted that the victim was not wearing any head protection at the time of the collision. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
