Several Injured After Big Rig Hits Center Divider and Multiple Vehicles in Baker

BAKER, CA (July 16, 2019) – A multi-vehicle collision on the 15 Freeway left a total of 15 people injured in Baker Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the incident occurred at about 3 p.m. A tractor-trailer was southbound on the freeway when it hit the center divider and subsequently collided with up to eight vehicles. The big rig rested on the right shoulder of the northbound side, blocking lane number two.

As a result of the collision, one person got ejected from a vehicle. Another person was trapped inside a white Ford SUV and required extrication. Additionally, one of the people involved in the crash suffered a heart attack.

Officials requested three medical helicopters to land at the scene and transport three people with critical injuries to trauma centers. On the other hand, ground ambulances transported 12 patients to hospitals.

The crash prompted the closure of northbound 15 Freeway. The investigation is ongoing.

When driving, always focus on the road and be aware of your surroundings. It is also important to anticipate what the other drivers might do, especially on a highway, an interchange, or a service road. These require even more alertness and caution than local streets. Driving with caution and following the conditions of the road can help prevent road accidents.
