13-Year-Old Boy Killed in Crash at Old Highway 395 and Rainbow Glen Road [RAINBOW, CA]

SUV Crashes into Big Rig on Old Highway 395 Killing 1 and Injuring 2

 
RAINBOW, CA (July 23, 2019) – A boy was killed when an SUV collided with a big rig Tuesday afternoon in Rainbow.
 
The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on Old Highway 395 at Rainbow Glen Road.
 
According to reports, a mother was driving with her two children when their Honda Passport collided with the big rig towing two rock hauling trailers. Both vehicles simultaneously attempted to enter the intersection when they collided.
 
The impact of the crash pushed the Honda to the right shoulder and struck an overhead light. Both vehicles had front-end damage and were seen disabled on the side of the road.
 
One of the children in the SUV, a 13-year-old boy riding in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The mother was taken to Palomar Hospital with major injuries and the other child, a 6-year-old girl, was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
 
The trucker was also hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening trauma.
 
The crash sparked a small brush fire on a hillside along the highway. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.
 
Officers closed a section of Old Highway 395 near the crash until around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.
 
No identification is being released at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
