Infant Killed and Mother Hospitalized after Suspected DUI Crash near Monaco Street
COMMERCE CITY, CO (July 28, 2018) – An infant was killed Saturday evening following a single-vehicle crash on East 80th Avenue.
As per reports, the incident happened at about 9:30 PM in the 6500 block of East 80th Avenue. A vehicle was traveling westbound on the road when it struck a parked vehicle near Monaco Street. The impact pushed the second vehicle into a front yard.
The driver and her 11-month-old daughter were found severely injured, according to responding officers. They were rushed to a local hospital for treatment and further medical evaluation. Unfortunately, the infant succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead hours later. Meanwhile, her mother remains hospitalized, although her current condition is unknown.
Investigators believe that alcohol is a contributing factor in the fatal crash. Witnesses also claimed that the driver might have fallen asleep and that there were no signs of her attempting to stop the vehicle. An investigation is ongoing to verify these claims and to determine the cause of the accident.
