Nevada Museums Officials Injured in Nye County Fatal Vehicle Collision
Nye County, NV (June 8, 2023) – At about 9:25 p.m. on May 20, Nola Humphrey, 10, Victor Jacuinde-Garcia, 22, of Las Vegas, and Giovanni Vasquez, 24, also of Las Vegas, were killed in a US 95 collision.
The Nevada Highway Patrol officers said a Chevrolet Trax SUV driven by Victor Jacuinde-Garcia, with passenger Giovanni Vasquez, was northbound on the highway when it approached a 2022 Dodge Ram pickup in the southbound lane.
Jacuinde-Garcia’s vehicle collided head-on with the pickup truck which rotated, stopped in the southbound lane, and started to fire. The Trax rested in the lane.
Responding officers declared Jacuinde-Garcia and Vasquez dead at the scene while the authorities transported Nola Humphrey to Desert View Hospital in Pahrump where she was declared dead.
Married couple Joshua Bonde who is the director of the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, and Becky Hall, the executive director of the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, were among those who were riding the pickup truck when the accident happened.
Nola Humphrey is a daughter of Becky Hall.
Bonde, Hall, and Keira Humphrey, 12, another daughter of Hall, were flown to UMC‘s trauma unit.
Hall regained consciousness on May 25 and was told about Nola while Keira woke up the following day.
Bonde sustained abdominal trauma requiring immediate surgery plus ankle, back, and rib fractures. Hall underwent surgery for internal injuries and sustained a broken knee, femur, foot, back, and sternum. Keira underwent surgery for abdominal injuries.
NHP is investigating the US 95 collision.
