SUV Crashes Into CiCi’s Pizza in Mount Pleasant, Injuring Students on School Field Trip

Mount Pleasant, TX (April 12, 2025) – A horrific traffic crash on South Jefferson Avenue on Thursday morning resulted in multiple injuries.

According to police, the shocking crash happened around 11:20 a.m. on South Jefferson Avenue.

Reports say that a vehicle crashed into a CiCi’s Pizza restaurant in Mount Pleasant on Thursday, injuring several Chapel Hill ISD sixth-grade students who were there on a field trip.

Authorities confirmed that 10 people, including six children and four adults, were transported to local hospitals. One person remains in critical condition.

A 79-year-old Toyota 4Runner driver may have accidentally backed into a pickup truck and then drove forward into the restaurant. About 30 to 50 students were at the location at the time, many of whom were outside.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes, and all uninjured students were either reunited with parents or returned to school. The driver was evaluated and found to be in stable condition.

Chapel Hill ISD has made counselors available to support students and families as they process the event.

Be a Responsible Driver

Be a defensive driver to prevent road accidents. Stay alert, maintain a safe distance, and always expect the unexpected. Avoid distractions, obey speed limits, and use your signals. Watch for pedestrians and cyclists. A proactive, cautious approach keeps everyone safer on the road. Drive smart, drive safe!

Sweet Lawyers urge all drivers, especially seniors, to be cautious and alert when operating vehicles near busy areas. In parking lots and public spaces, a moment of distraction can cause life-altering injuries.

File a Personal Injury Claim in Case of Traffic Collision

A personal injury claim following a traffic collision is a legal process that allows an injured party to seek compensation for physical, emotional, and financial harm caused by the accident. These claims arise when a driver’s negligence, recklessness, or intentional actions lead to an accident resulting in injuries.

The first step in pursuing a personal injury claim is to establish fault. This normally involves gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, traffic camera footage, and photographs of the accident scene. A skilled attorney from Sweet Lawyers can help establish who was responsible for the accident, which is, indeed, necessary for determining liability.

Once fault is established, the injured party can then pursue compensation for damages, which may include but are not limited to medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering. Consequently, medical documentation and witnesses’ testimonies are essential for proving the extent of the injuries and their impact on the victim’s life.

Meanwhile, it’s important to note that the statute of limitations, or the time frame within which a personal injury claim must be filed, varies by state. Meaning if a claim is not filed within this window, the victim and the family of the victim may lose the right to seek compensation.

Know that a personal injury claim may be complex, but it offers an essential avenue that helps the victims to recover damages and hold negligent drivers accountable.
