FERNDALE, WA (February 16, 2021) – On Monday afternoon, a person sustained injuries in a rollover crash on Interstate 5 and Portal Way.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant, the incident occurred at around 3:45 p.m. Moreover, it happened on Interstate 5, south of the Portal Way interchange.

Reports revealed that a southbound Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV drifted to the left shoulder. Then, it hit a slush, returned to the roadway then overcorrected to the left again away from the road. Afterward, it rolled over to its roof against the median cable barrier.

The driver of the SUV managed to get out of the vehicle alone. Meanwhile, a bystander assisted a passenger out of the vehicle, Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said. Moreover, responders from the WCFD7 aid crew took a person to PeaceHealth St. Joseph’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV received a citation for driving with wheels off roadway, Oliphant added.
