Interstate 80 Lanes Now Open After Deadly Collision

Berkeley, CA (August 20, 2020) – On Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol officers investigated a deadly multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 that prompted a Sig-alert, and blocked multiple lanes for an hour.

CHP Officer Sean Layton said, right about after 3 p.m. officers are on the eastbound I-80 lanes near the Gilman Street on-ramp west of Buchanan Street.

Rescuers found a green Toyota Tercel with a man inside suffering from serious injury. Despite the emergency, and life-saving measures given, the man succumbed to his injuries.

A preliminary investigation on the crash on Interstate 80 details that the Toyota drove with high-speed and then changed lanes, striking a black Lexus IS 350.

Then, the Toyota driver lost control struck the center divider and rolled onto a blue Ford Ranger.

Officer Layton said that Paramedics and Berkeley police responded to the crash, and found no other casualties.

Officers issued a Sig-alert at 3:23 p.m. advising drivers to avoid the area as lanes 1-6 are not passable. Fortunately, around 4:30 p.m lanes became operational.

Authorities declared neither alcohol nor substances are a factor calls to the public for additional information. CHP’s Oakland office number is 510-547-2875.
