Woman Fatally Injured and Three Hospitalized after Collision near 15 Freeway
EL CAJON, CA (September 27, 2018) – On Thursday morning, a woman was killed and several others were injured in a head-on crash on Highway 138.
According to reports, the vehicles involved in the fatal collision were a silver Toyota Camry and an SUV. As per reports, the accident occurred around 8:21 AM, around a mile and a half east of the 15 Freeway.
San Bernardino County Fire personnel arrived at the scene and assisted with rescuing two occupants that were trapped inside their wrecked vehicles. Three people were transported by ground ambulances to local hospitals and one person was flown by a Mercy Air helicopter to the Loma Linda University Medical Center. The female driver of the Camry was rushed to the San Bernardino Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, despite life-saving measures. Her identity is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
A Sig-Alert was implemented at about 9:42 AM. Authorities closed Highway 138 between the I-15 and Summit Valley Road and reopened at around 11:00 AM. No further details have been disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing to determine the events leading up to the accident and what caused the crash.
