Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Interstate 70 in Columbia

Columbia, MO (November 30, 2024) – A fatal crash on Interstate 70 in Columbia Saturday morning left one person dead, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Troop F. 

Troopers began investigating the two-vehicle collision near mile marker 121 around 10:46 a.m., as noted in a Troop F post on X.

“The driving lane is blocked and traffic is backing up quickly. Please avoid the area and use an alternate route,” MSHP warned in the post.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) also announced on X that both westbound lanes of I-70 at mile marker 121 were closed due to the crash. 

According to MoDOT’s traveler’s map, the incident was initially reported at 9:34 a.m.

Traffic cameras between mile markers 121 and 124 showed vehicles stalled in the westbound lanes near Sorrels Overpass, while eastbound traffic continued to flow. 

By approximately 11:15 a.m., traffic resumed in the westbound lanes.
