1 Dead in Sacramento Pedestrian Accident on Highway 51 over American River Bridge

SACRAMENTO, CA (April 14, 2025) – Saturday morning, a brutal pedestrian crash on Highway 51 over American River Bridge killed 1.

The incident began at about 5:20 a.m. when a 30-year-old pedestrian reportedly walked south on Highway 51 over the American River Bridge within the third lane.

The pedestrian was killed after being hit by two vehicles on a California highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the driver of an Audi A6 was traveling in the third lane when they saw the pedestrian. The driver swerved to the right to avoid a collision, but the car’s left side mirror reportedly struck the pedestrian.

Moments later, a Mazda CX-30 traveling behind the Audi also hit the individual. The pedestrian came to rest between the second and third lanes and suffered fatal injuries, authorities said.

All lanes were closed for about an hour as officers investigated and cleared the scene.
