HOCKLEY COUNTY, TX (February 2, 2023) – Wednesday, a person died in a major crash on SH 114 and Smyer.
 
The incident happened on SH 114 east of Smyer.
 
According to reports, a DPS trooper made a traffic stop. However, an eastbound vehicle went over the median.
 
Then, the vehicle hit the car and patrol unit that had pulled over on the side of the highway.
 
Reports said that the driver of the car that was pulled over succumbed to injuries at the scene.
 
Moreover, the trooper is expected to make a full recovery.
 
Meanwhile, the crash shut down westbound traffic and authorities redirected traffic onto FM 2130.
 
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
