Police Investigate Fatal Snow-Related Crash on State Route 88 in Tragedy Spring

Tragedy Spring, CA (May 15, 2025) – One person died and one other sustained injuries in a crash on State Route 88.

On a snowy evening in Spring, California, the driver of an SUV (Party #1) was traveling eastbound on State Route 88, just east of Mehrten Spring Road, at approximately 60 miles per hour.

Light snow was falling, and the roadway was partially covered, creating hazardous conditions.

At the same time, the driver of a dump truck (Party #2) was heading westbound on the same route, approaching from the opposite direction.

As Party #1 entered a slight curve, he lost control of the SUV due to an unsafe speed for the snowy conditions.

Witnessing the SUV skidding toward him, Party #2 began to slow down and nearly brought the dump truck to a stop.

Despite his efforts, the SUV crossed into the westbound lane and crashed driver’s side first into the front left side of the dump truck.

The impact forced the dump truck to stop partially in the westbound lane and on the north shoulder.

All front and side airbags deployed inside the SUV. Emergency personnel had to extract both occupants—Party #1 and his passenger—from the vehicle.

Party #1 suffered hip pain and facial abrasions, while his passenger sustained back pain and similar facial injuries.

Paramedics transported both to Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, CA, before they were transferred to UC Davis Medical Center.

Sadly, Party #1 succumbed to his injuries on May 13th at 10:38 p.m.

Authorities are withholding the names of those involved pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.

Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
