1 Killed, 5 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 10 Freeway at Holt Avenue [WEST COVINA, CA]

4 Vehicles Involved in Deadly Crash on 10 Freeway in West Covina

 
WEST COVINA, CA (December 30, 2019) – One person was killed and five others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash late Monday afternoon in West Covina.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:49 p.m., on westbound 10 Freeway just east of Holt Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chevrolet Express van was traveling at 60 mph when it rear-ended a 2014 Smart compact car. The Smart car was then pushed into a 2008 Chrysler Aspen, which consequently rear-ended a Kia Stinger as a result.
 
The driver of the Smart car, 37-year-old Yuan Zhang of Chino Hills, and his passenger suffered blunt force trauma. They were eventually taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where the 28-year-old passenger from San Dimas died shortly before midnight.
 
Meanwhile, the driver of the Express van, 60-year-old Amado Santos of Sun Valley, sustained facial cuts. The Aspen’s driver, 43-year-old Jorge Vidana of La Puente, was later taken to Emanate Health Foothill Presbyterian Hospital with shoulder, leg and back injuries.
 
The driver of the Stinger, 40-year-old Jaynene Owens of Covina, had pain in her shoulder, neck and back while her passenger, a 69-year-old Covina woman, had head, neck and back pain.
 
Furthermore, the CHP shut down all westbound lanes of 10 Freeway, just east of Holt Avenue until around 9:30 p.m. However, the area has since reopened. More information will be released once available.
