Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Preston Road in University Park

University Park, TX (November 22, 2024) – A five-vehicle crash on Preston Road and Lovers Lane on Friday evening left a woman dead and a man in critical condition, police reported.

According to the City of University Park, police and fire crews responded to the scene at 6:36 p.m. Investigators stated that a Chevy Silverado, traveling eastbound on Lovers Lane at high speed, ran a red light and collided with a vehicle heading north on Preston Road.

The impact pushed the struck vehicle into three other cars stopped at the red light on Lovers Lane. 

Witnesses reported that the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was temporarily detained by a bystander. However, the suspect broke free and was arrested by police about a block away.

Paramedics arrived at the scene by 6:38 p.m. and discovered a woman deceased and a man in critical condition in the vehicle initially struck by the Silverado. 

Emergency responders transported the man to Presbyterian Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Paramedics also evaluated two additional individuals involved in the crash and determined they were uninjured. The city has not yet released the names of the victims.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
