LAPD Officer Hospitalized After Crash on the Ventura Freeway in Van Nuys

Van Nuys, CA (February 21, 2025) – A Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer sustained injuries and was hospitalized after on the Ventura (101) Freeway during a high-speed pursuit of burglary suspects in Van Nuys early Friday morning.

Officers from the LAPD Van Nuys Division responded to a burglary-in-progress call at 3:15 a.m. at a business located at 15355 Sherman Way, west of Sepulveda Boulevard. 

Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspects, who fled the scene, prompting a police chase, LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes told City News Service.

The pursuit began at 3:16 a.m. and ended at 3:24 a.m., according to LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes. 

The suspects led police on a chase along the freeway, which ended near Tampa Avenue, where officers crashed their patrol vehicle.

Although the suspects managed to evade capture, officers later found their abandoned vehicle near the Ventura Freeway and Burbank Boulevard, Terzes reported.

Emergency responders transported the injured officer to a hospital, where medical staff treated him for minor injuries.
