BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 18, 2025) – Sunday morning, an alarming pedestrian crash on Highway 99 near David Road injured a firefighter.
Reports said that the incident occurred at about 12:09 a.m. on Highway 99 near David Road.
Kern County Fire Department officials reported that firefighters were dispatched to a semi-truck fire when an unexpected incident occurred.
At the scene, a firefighter noticed a vehicle speeding toward him while he stood by a fire engine.
Reacting quickly, he threw himself against the fire engine, managing to move most of his body out of the way. Despite this, he sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to fire officials.
The firefighter was taken to the hospital and is expected to return to full duty once he fully recovers.
Witnesses informed the highway patrol that the suspect vehicle was possibly a white Chevrolet sedan, though the model year remains unknown.
