1 Hospitalized in Rancho Santa Fe Car Accident

RANCHO SANTA FE, CA (February 4, 2019) – One person sustained injuries following a collision with a power pole on El Camino Real at Via Gaviota on January 31.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department revealed that two people were stuck after the crash sent live power lines on the street.

The incident occurred on rain-slick roads around 4:30 p.m. on El Camino Real at Via Gaviota when a red car driver struck a power pole, sending live wires on the road.

Another vehicle struck the live wires. However, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Chief David Livingstone stated that the drivers were protected from the live wire by the insulation of their tires. If ever they stepped out of their cars, they might be electrocuted.

El Camino Real was closed in both directions while shut down power and used the Jaws of Life to free the trapped driver.

The man was awake but sustained lower-body injuries when he was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. Crews attempted to airlift him to safety, but the weather did not allow the air rescue.

Meanwhile, the second vehicle was able to drive away.

As a result of the crash, San Diego Gas and Electric officials revealed that 322 power customers were affected by the incident.

The details regarding the cause of the collision are still undisclosed as of this time.
