San Jose, CA (June 8, 2023) – Early Thursday morning, a female passenger died in a solo vehicle crash on Interstate 880.

The fatal solo vehicle crash on Interstate 880 in San Jose happened at about 12:50 a.m. on June 8.

CHP said an 18-year-old man driving a 2007 Dodge Caliber was traveling between 65 and 75 mph on northbound I-880 just north of Montague Expressway when he lost control of the car following an “unsafe turning movement to the left”.

The vehicle crashed through the median barrier before veering right and crossing the four lanes of traffic traveling north.

It hit the raised strip that separates the freeway lane from the on-ramp, overturned, and slammed into the sound wall.

An 18-year-old female passenger was thrown from the car. At 1:10 a.m., paramedics declared her dead. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Investigators did not confirm if drugs or alcohol use was involved.

Further investigation is ongoing.
