1 Injured in Burney Car Crash on Main Street

BURNEY, CA (September 18, 2019) – A person sustained injuries after a car crash on Main Street on September 15.

The incident occurred on the 37000 block of Main Street, just west of Michigan Street. CHP, Burney Station deputies, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene shortly after 6:00 a.m.

A westbound SUV collided into a building for unknown reasons. The building also sustained moderate structure damage as a result.

Authorities located debris in the roadway along with a blue or grey Ford Explorer near a large hole in the wall. The Ford allegedly traveled through a nearby fence before ramming into the west side of the building.

Officials dispatched an air ambulance to transport the victim to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for further treatment.

PG&E officials also came to the scene after hearing reports that an electrical box along the building’s west side was damaged. Moreover, the crash consequently left multiple live wires exposed.

Furthermore, reports also indicate that no one was inside of the building at the time. However, the incident required Performance Tow’s services to remove the vehicle from inside the building. The crews then utilized boards to close the hole left by the SUV’s impact.

Pit River Vice-Chair Russell Newt Eleck also revealed that the Pit River Tribe Housing Department owned the building.

“As for the building itself, I hope it’s not too bad as to halt operations and that it can be fixed in a timely manner,” Eleck said. “But our concern for the safety and well being of all involved are a priority.”

It’s still unclear whether driver fatigue, a medical condition, intoxication, or excessive speed played a role in the collision at this time. However, more details will soon be released.
